Welcome!
In 2022, we started with a small flock of six Debouillet ewe lambs and one wether. A cross between Rambouillet and Delaine Merino sheep, the Deboulliet sheep was developed starting in the 1920’s by A.D. Jones in Tatum, NM and was officially recognized by the USDA in 1955 as the first all-American breed of sheep. Debouillet were selectively bred to maintain long staple and fine micron count, but to also produce a sheep that maintained a solid, smooth body - all while thriving in extremely hot and arid conditions. With the fineness of the fiber and the general hardiness of this breed, Debouillet seemed like the perfect choice for our small operation located on the Great Plains of Colorado.
Unlike the typical range sheep, ours are coated year-round to reduce the amount of vegetable matter and other debris in the wool which makes our fleeces a prime choice for handspinners. Close attention is paid to nutrition and the sheep receive the highest standard of care possible. With such a small flock, they all have names, individual personalities and are treated more like companion animals than livestock - to say the least, they are loved and treasured members of our “farmily.”
Raw fleeces, wool pellets from our waste wool and any other products made from our home-grown wool will be available in the shop. Additional products ranging from up-cycled shopping bags to finished pieces of art, weaving, or hand knits can also be found there.
***Please note that if you are local, there is a pickup option in lieu of having your items shipped if you’re anywhere along the front range or Denver, CO areas.
Last but not least, please follow along on our adventures on the farm blog. You can also follow our social media accounts through the icons at the bottom of the page.
